If you think something might have affected your performance during your test, such as temporary illness/injury or problems with the administration of the test, or if you cannot attend the test due to illness, you can apply for special consideration. The form to request special consideration for STEP 2 is available from the test day until 14 June 2023 at 17.00 BST in this article.
Information for test centres
STEP test materials despatch started on 22 May and it is expected that most UK centres will receive them by the end of this week.
If you are a registered test centre you can find useful information about the STEP 2023 session in the support site section here.
You will need to log into the site to access these resources.
October session
The October session will include the following tests:
- BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT)
- Test of Mathematics for University Admission (TMUA)
- Engineering Admissions Assessment (ENGAA)
- Natural Sciences Admissions Assessment (NSAA)
- Thinking Skills Assessment Section 1 (TSA S1)
- Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA)
All tests will be paper-based in 2023 and have to be taken at approved test centres.

Registration fees apply for BMAT and TMUA as follows:
Registration fee within the UK and EU: £78/€91

If you are a school and would like to apply to become a test centre, please see the information here. The deadline for applications to become a test centre is 15 September 2023 at 12.00 noon (UK time).

BMAT March
BMAT March took place on 4 March 2023.
You need to use our Metritests system to check your BMAT results and release them to your chosen institution(s). To find out more about sharing your results via Metritests please see this article.
IMAT
Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing will not be running the IMAT in 2023. Please visit the CINECA support site if you have any queries regarding this.
Admissions tests in 2024
Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing will withdraw from running a series of university admissions tests with effect from 2024-5.
