Computer based tests will be delivered using the BTL Surpass SecureClient system.
This article is aimed at test centres administering the computer based tests and details the technical specifications for installing and running the tests. If you are a candidate, your centre will provide you with information about the computer used on the test day.
If you have made entries for computer based tests you will receive full instructions on how to access the system and when and how to install SecureClient by email.
In order to install SecureClient you will need to have administrator rights to the PC and ensure that your Antivirus software or Firewall allow installation - please see the attached guide.
Please find below the system requirements for installing and running SecureClient on a PC. If your device does not meet these requirements you may not be able to run the tests with SecureClient.
If you are planning on using Chromebooks or Apple Mac to run the tests, please contact us.
- Processor 1.80GHz or faster
- RAM 4GB as a minimum and 8 GB as the recommended (with 1GB of free memory whilst the application is running)
- 1GB of free hard drive disk space
- Single display (i.e no second monitor)
- Screen resolution of 1024x768 (minimum)
- Two button mouse
Supported operating systems:
- Windows 8 (32bit or 64bit)
- Windows 8.1 (32bit or 64bit)
- Windows 10 (32bit or 64bit
You will require Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.5.2.
Please ensure your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari) is updated to the latest version.
You will need 1GB of free hard drive disk space to run the test.
All Microsoft Office applications need to be closed before SecureClient can run.
A centre connection of 2Mbps or greater for every 30 candidate tests being sat at the same time is recommended to ensure candidates are not affected by connection issues during test delivery.
You are advised to download the test in advance if you do not want candidates to have to wait for the test to download at the start of the session.
The use of 3G cards may not guarantee a constant bandwidth and could therefore not meet the minimum requirements.
Depending on the size of the test and number of candidates, download speeds and submission times may be affected.
Antivirus and Firewall configuration
You need to check that SecureClient is whitelisted on any Antivirus software installed on the PC. Please check the attached guide for more information on this.
