STEP 2021 will be administered at test centres as a paper-based test.
STEP 2 takes place on 14 June
STEP 3 takes place on 17 June
Candidates wishing to take STEP need to register via one of our authorised test centres. You can find contact details of authorised test centres on our Find a centre page.
Registration for both papers opens on 15 March.
Registration for both papers closes on 7 May at 16:00 BST.
Important: The deadline above is for centres to register candidates and not for candidates to provide their details to the centre. It is possible for centres to have an earlier deadline so they can ensure every candidate is registered. Please contact your chosen centre as soon as possible.
Which STEP paper should I register for?
Your university will inform you which STEP paper you need to take. If they have not stated a specific paper, then that means you can take either or both of paper.
Can I take the test a year early?
Yes, you can take STEP even if you have not yet submitted your university application. Please check with your chosen university if they will accept a result from an test taken a year earlier than needed.
Can I take the test without a UCAS number?
Yes, the UCAS number is not mandatory, but if you are applying to a university, please ensure you provide your test with your UCAS number before the test takes place. This will ensure that your university can locate your STEP results faster.
Please ensure that you tell your test centre about the access arrangements you require at the time you register for the test. You can find detailed information about access arrangements in our article here.
What access arrangements can I request?
The arrangements you can request would depend on the condition/illness you have. Please inform the centre of your needs and they will submit a request to us on your behalf.
Please contact your centre to find out the start time of the test. Centres may need you to arrive at the premises in advance to ensure they can complete security checks before you are allowed in the test room.
